Metaphor, according to cognitive view, refers to understanding a more abstract domain through a more concrete domain via linguistic expressions. It is said that through the expressions of metaphor the culture of a people can exist and be revealed.This is also confirmed in the studies in cognitive linguistics by Lakoff and Johnson [5], Lakoff and Turner [6], Kövecses [2] and Lý Toàn Thắng [11]. Based on such approaches, this paper has investigated over 300 Vietnamese poems and nearly the same number in English containing metaphorical expressions for love, which have the word “lòng” in Vietnamese and the word “heart” in English.
